Following red tracks with unforgettable gratitude to the base—Jiang Wei’s trip with the medical service team to Babie Mountain in Anhui

On Aug 8, 2011, when the 90th Party founding anniversary was celebrated, physician Jiang Wei on behalf of our hospital joined the medical service team consisted of doctoral students from Fudan University. The team was leaving for Liu’an City Huoqiu County,    Anhui Province, the old revolutionary base, to deliver timely medical service to the peoplethere.

Jiang Wei and the team devoted themselves to the intense work as soon as they arrived. They worked at the outpatient department in the morning and organized teaching ward-round and gave lectures to obstetrician-gynecologists from the whole county in the afternoon. A lot of patients came all the way up here in order to see the doctors from Shanghai. Patients were so many that the team had to work overtime practically everyday. During the rounds in the afternoon, Jiang Wei would communicate with his local fellow doctors on recent development in OB/GYN. When Jiang Wei found that the hospital didn’t have a vaginal ultrasound, he explained to the president in detail the advantages of vaginal ultrasound examination, e.g. not requiring a full bladder of the patient, leading to more speedy and accurate diagnosis, etc. The president expressed right away that they would introduce the technique and send doctors to superior hospitals for training. The medical service trip not only treated a group of local residents, but also brought them better future medical care with vaginal ultrasound equipment. In a lecture to obstetrician-gynecologists of Huoqiu County, Jiang Wei made a report on recent development in endometriosis and endometrial cancer, sharing his own experience with more than 80 fellow physicians, and received a good response. 

A week of medical service in the Dabie Mountain quickly came to an end. Jiang Wei said, if possible, he would come again to the base to serve the people here. (article / postgraduate Cong Qing)
