Professor Keqin Hua and Professor Shimin Zhao Won Shanghai Municipal Medical Science & Technology Awards

2017-05-04

The 15th Shanghai Municipal Medical Science & Technology Awards were unveiled on April 25, 2017. “Research on Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Precision Treatment for Reproductive Endocrinology and Organ Function Preservation” led by Professor Keqin Hua won First-prize award.

Gynecologic diseases threat reproductive endocrinology and fertility. With the popularity of the concept of value-based medicine and personalized treatment, the preservations of reproductive endocrinology and organ functions and fertility become key clinic topics. Some conventional treatments may hurt patients’ reproductive endocrinology functions, while inadequate treatments may influence effects or even risk their lives, which is a huge challenge for all gynecologists. Professor Hua’s research focuses on fertility preservation for patients with tumors or genital tract malformation aiming at preserving fertility and improving life quality via tailor-made treatments.

This program has two major parts: Firstly, precise treatment for the gynecologic malignant tumor to preserve the function of reproductive endocrinology. Secondly, reconstructive treatment for reproductive organs to preserve fertility.

“Molecular Mechanisms of tumorigenesis from Metabolite Disorder Altering Signaling Pathways” led by Professor Shimin Zhao won Second-prize Award.

Metabolite disorder is the main inducing factor of tumorigenesis. However, it’s molecular mechanism have not been clarified. In 2008 Professor Zhao’s team put forward the hypothesis that metabolite disorders induce tumors via regulating signaling pathways and tumor microenvironment. Verification of this hypothesis led by Professor Zhao’s team was significant and original breakthroughs.
