Professor Bai Shaochun from Indiana University brought “cutting-edge technology of molecule diagnosis”

On 21st July, 2015, at the invitation of our hospital, Professor Bai Shaochun, director of Genetic Molecule Diagnosis Lab of the Centre of Clinical Genome Diagnosis, Indiana University, USA, delivered a presentation on “Clinical Molecule Diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis”. This meeting was chaired by President Xu Congjian. 40+ people, including Vice President Li Dajin, Professor Wang Hongyan, employees of our hospital, graduates and researchers from other hospitals have come to the meeting.

Professor Bai got her Bachelor degree from Shandong Normal University, her Ph.D from Shanghai Brain Institute of Chinese Academy of Science. Later, she went to the US to further her study. She conducted her post-doctoral research in MD Anderson Cancer Center and Roswell Park Cancer Center. Currently, Professor Bai Shaochun is the director of Genetic Molecule Diagnosis Lab of the Centre of Clinical Genome Diagnosis, Indiana University. Her research is on the development and application of clinical molecule diagnosis. She has conducted research on prenatal diagnosis, and the quality management and technology application of common genetic diseases test.

In the presentation, Professor Bai talked about the current clinical application of molecule diagnosis technology of Indiana University, USA. She used cystic fibrosis as an example to demonstrate the process and strategy of genetic molecule diagnosis and the screening for new born babies in the State of Indiana. She stressed that genetic molecule diagnosis is a coordinated process by the patients, the doctors and the lab people. The leaders, expert and doctors discussed with Professor Bai on the technology and its application, and the possible cooperation opportunities between Professor Bai and our hospital.
