Professor Donna D.Zhang, Americansenior visiting scholar, the winner of American Society of Toxicology (SOT)Achievement Award of 2012, visited Huangpu Hospital District inthe afternoon of August 2, 2012. Invited by ShanghaiKey Laboratory of Female Reproductive Endocrine Related Diseases, Dr. Donna Zhang brought a wonderful lecture on "Thedual role of Nrf2-Keap1-ARE signaling pathway and Nrf2 in cancer". ProfessorDonna D. Zhang is currently an associate professor of College of Pharmacy, University of Arizona. During the last decade, she had been workingon Nrf2-Keap1-ARE signaling pathway.

Professor Zhang first introduced the research background and current status of Nrf2-Keap1-ARE signaling pathway, then she detailed the breakthrough their lab made in the role of Nrf2 in the prevention and resistance of tumor and type 2diabetes. Their research results has been published in nearly 50 papers of SCIjournals, and Professor Zhang has received 5 NIH R01 research support. After years of exploration, her team extracted Brusatol from natural plants, the only natural antagonist of Nrf2 proved effective to current. Brusatol is expected toalleviate drug resistance of tumors. Professor Zhang made the lecture very vivid and the audience inspired. Xu Jian Cong(director of our hospital), Professor Guo Sunwei and other colleagues discussed with Professor Zhang about the prospects Nrf2 in-depth. In addition to hospital clinicians and graduate students, the seminar also attracted the colleagues from Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University (IBS). This academic activity not only promoted the academic interaction with foreign seniorscholars, but also enhanced the mutual communication and understanding of different laboratory.
