Medical Department Introduction

Nursing Department

The nursing department of Ob&Gy Hospital (also called Red House Hospital) is a united, progressive and vibrant team, which has been always adhering to our seniors' spirit of fraternity, high ethics and excellent skills. We've established the philosophy of "people-oriented and patient-centered nursing service", and have also made outstanding contributions to improving women and children's health, which has engraved important marks for the glorious history of our hospital. Currently, the nursing department has nearly 600 nurses and 72% of them have gained the college degree or above. The hospital implements a three-tier nursing management system which is the nursing department, branch head nurse, and ward head nurse.

All of the nursing staff have been working hard with pioneering spirit and they are endeavoring to carry out high-quality care project. They've established high-quality care demonstration wards to ensure patient safety in different caring aspects, providing quality care for broad masses of women. The nursing department has set up sustainable and efficient network including office automation management system, nursing trends, continuing education and nursing research column, etc., making full use of modern information technology to optimize the nursing human resources, improve work efficiency and stimulate the nurses' working enthusiasm.

The nursing department has always attached great importance to personnel training and team construction. On the principle of "openness, transparency and fair competition", many reserve nurses who are excellent in nursing management, nursing education and specialist care are selected in the form of self introduction and challenge tournament. In addition, we've used the comprehensive and long-term "three-basic training" mechanism in order to continuously improve the nurses' leveled training, decentralized administration and performance appraisal system. Various simulation facilities are also fully utilized to provide different training platforms for the nursing staff. Many competitions are regularly organized, such as the intravenous catheter operation, neonatal resuscitation, and peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) operation and nursing process.

The nursing department has additionally set up Ob&Gy clinical nursing teaching and research section for the nursing school of Fudan University, undertaking the task of continuing education for all the nursing staff from the hospital and the training of master, undergraduate and junior college students from the nursing school. Meanwhile, our hospital has held many national nursing continuing education programs and the nurses from all parts of the country come to our hospital for further studies and training each year. Besides, the nursing seniors and specialists in our hospital have frequently participated in editing and writing the national college textbook named "Nursing of Obstetrics and Gynecology". In terms of nursing research, our nursing predecessors have made great contributions through the ages. For instance, the original research project headed by Ms JiangYuzhen, the former director of nursing department, won the third prize of municipal scientific and technological progress award of Shanghai. The number of nursing research papers published in referred and authoritative journals have been increasing steadily in recent years, including Science Citation Index (SCI) papers as well.

In order to further develop the nursing career of our hospital, we've been active in strengthening the foreign exchanges. Aiming at training advanced midwives and maternal nurses, the hospital has established long-term cooperative relationships with Lund University in Sweden, where the midwifery education has reached a high level. Currently, many nurses in our hospital have been there for advanced studies for a period of time and they have co-organized a number of nursing academic exchange activities. Further co-operations and communications will be carried out in the fields of nursing education and research in the near future.
