Medical center of diagnosis and treatment for cervical diseases is the first domestic department that carried out colposcopy and specialized in the diagnosis, treatment and reseach of HPV infection related diseases in lower genital tract. The center has a history of more than 30 years by now. Within the department, the patients are always of the first importance, innovations were continuously achieved to advance with times. Supported multifacetedly by other strong departments of the hospital, the current practice involves screening of gynecological disease, lower genital tract inflammation, HPV infection related disease, precancerous lesion, and hysteroscopy. Over 80,000 outpatients were registered per year, over 4000 cases of cervical surgery and over 4000 cases of hysteroscopy were performed per year. Abundant experiences were accumulated in the diagnosis and treatment of vulval, vaginal and cervical disease, also in hysteroscopy practicing. The technical force of the department is powerful and the staffing allocation is reasonable. The department has 20 full-time faculty (3 Ph.D and 2 MD), 2 of whom are vice-chiefs, 7 are attendings. The faculty builds a strong medical team to provide specialized and humanistic service for the females. 

The department has always centered on the skills of colposcopy and hysteroscopy. With the system and regulations of diagnosis and treatment perfected, diagnostic and therapeutic abilities and skills were sharpened up, the follow-up and summary of the clinical data were paid attention to. Colposcopic diagnosis of cervical precancerous lesions, early diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer, LEEP in treating cervical precancerous lesions, laser/Hifu/cryotherapy in treating cervicitis are in leadingposition in the country. Massive amount of clinical experiences were accumulated in hysteroscopic treatment of endometrial adhesion, uterine septum, endometrial polyp, uterine submucous myoma, endometrial lesion and removal of foreign body (missed intrauterine device, placental residual, etc). In recent years, hysteroscopy combined with laparoscopy in treatment of cesarian diverticulum was successfully achieved with the help of gynecological department in the center. The faculty’s diagnostic and therapeutic level is at the leading edge persistently in the country. 

In addition to clinical work, members of the department gave close attention to the latest advances in the subject home and abroad. The faculty undertook the missions of the Eleventh Five-year Plan of the National Ministry of Science and Technology, the project of early diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer from the Ministry of Health, and the related project from Shanghai Leading Academic Discipline Project. Multiple awards were achieved from Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and the Ministry of Health. __ monographs and __ articles were published, among which __ articles were collected in SCI journals and the impact factor was __. Those achievements are influential within the subject. 

As the training base of endoscopy, in order to spread the clinical application of colposcopy and enhance the skills, the center has laid down an integrated training plan for the training doctors visiting in the hospital so that they would be qualified as a colposcopist. On the other hand, with trainees all over the country, the 13th national workship of colposcopic technique was held successfully to further popularize and improve the theoretical knowledge of this skill. The achievements of continuing education has gradually emerged nowadays throughout the country.
