The Department of Integration of Western and Traditional Medicine

The Department of Integration of Western and Traditional Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University originated in 1958. The department is founded earliest in China. Now it is the Menstrual Disorder Center of Shanghai which was initiated by the Shanghai Public Health Bureau. The famous TCM doctor Chao Lingxian’s workshop was set up in 2007. Treating spontaneous abortion with Integrated of Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine began to work from 2008. The Department of Integration of Western and Traditional Medicine focus on absorbing essence of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The department staff uses a combination of Western disease diagnosis with TCM pattern diagnosis. Treatments include herbs, acupuncture and Western medicine, and treats conditions such as infertility, menstrual disorders, habitual spotaneous abortion, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, menopausal syndromes, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and other women’s health conditions. The physicians and Investigators in the department have particular expertise in treating polycystic ovary syndrome, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, threatened miscarriage and dysmenorrhea. The department now has 65 beds and admits 2800 inpatients per year. Its clinic has 200,000 out-patient visits per year. 

Many famous TCM physicians worked or is working in the department, such as Li Chaojing, Yu Jin, Chao Lingxian and Gui Suiqi. Now the department employs 25 physicians,2 professors, 9 associated professors. Investigators in the department got many diferent kinds of grant including the NIH grant, and gain many awards for their outstanding research achievements.
